Frequently Asked Questions
What height bar stool do I need for my kitchen island?
Bar stool height should be matched to your counter height, generally allowing around 25-30cm of clearance between the seat and the underside of the counter so your knees have room. If you're not sure of the exact measurement, a height-adjustable stool takes the guesswork out and suits more than one counter height.
Are bar stools comfortable for long periods of sitting?
Bar stools with a backrest and some padding are noticeably more comfortable for longer sits than a simple stool top, which is worth considering if you plan to use them for meals rather than quick breakfasts. Swivel bar stools also add comfort by letting you turn to chat without shifting the whole stool.
How do I clean velvet or PU bar stools?
Velvet stools should be vacuumed gently with a soft brush and any spills blotted straight away rather than wiped, while PU (faux leather) stools can be cleaned with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners on either material, and keep both away from direct heat sources that could damage the surface.
Do bar stools work as dining chairs?
Bar stools are designed for counter height seating and generally sit taller than standard dining chairs, so they're better suited to a kitchen island or breakfast bar than a standard dining table. Check the stool height against your table height before mixing the two, since the difference can make seating awkward.
